I love to cook, and I love helping others. I also love learning new cooking skills, so here's the perfect place. let's ask and answer each other's questions and help each other in the kitchen. And if you're good, you might even get dessert...

OK, I'm in. I'll subscribe to this so I can keep an eye. Ask away, folks. I'm no expert, but will answer what I can.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi, all. I just saw this thread. On www.nfbnet.org they've started a Blind Cooks mailing list, and it's pretty interesting. NO, you don't have to be a Federationist to join it, I've seen a lot of folks on there who aren't. But I've also seen some cool ideas, tips, and recipes exchanged there.

I know of so many recipe lists, but a place where tips are shared as well would be really nice. I'll check it out. as far as this board, I don't know where to begin. Hopefully someone will have a question or two about cooking something soon and will ask it. No, Garret. I never did find a recipe for special brownies. lol

The Blind Cooks list does have some recipes, but I think they're trying to keep it more about tips and tricks for cooking as a blind person. It was on the verge of becoming a recipe list just because people kept sending in a lot of them, but I think they've actually created a separate list for recipes.

I cook but during the summer time I mostly grill.
I purchased a very nice glove to grill with that can stand temps up to 400 Degrees so it makes it bareable to touch things when need be. I usually Wrap my foods or at least the grill in foil just to make things easier to flip.
SUnday I grilled 2 dozen pork chops. I seasoned them for four hours and them marinaded them in a sauce made from wirster shier brown sugar apple juice and Honey dejon mmustard. They sat in the sauce for about 15 hours. I grilled on about 350F for 8 minutes each side and man the flavor was jumping off the bone!

Depends. Does your dorm have a kitchen? And, if it doesnt, what kinds of appliances are you allowed to have in your room? For the first couple years I was in college, we were allowed to have things like mini refrigerators, microwaves, or coffee pots in our rooms. So, I got what was called a hot pot. It was essentially an electronic saucepan I could boil water in, so that I could make shells and chese, or Ramen noodles, etc. I also had a microwave and fridge in my room, and you could do a lot of things with those, too.

Hi, if possible, see if your dorm room will allow appliances like small crock pots. You can make tons of stuff in a crock pot. Things like ribs, different kinds of soup, pot roast, or even stuff like enchiladas or chicken can be cooked in one as well.

Hi all,

I really want to learn how to cook. But here in the Philippines, there is no school that teach blind people how to cook. I know school for the blind but the teacher only told the blind to observe not to do anything.

What do you think? Where should I start? My mom don't also allow me to cook but I really want to learn. I want to be independent.

I live in America, so have no idea of the things you have over there, or your methods of cooking. I wish I could be of more help to you.
